How Can I Exercise With My Baby Outdoors?

It’s hard to exercise as a parent of a baby/ toddler!

Finding the time and motivation to exercise with a new baby may be hard at first with the combination of a lack of sleep and managing a little one but doing gentle exercise will lift your mood and aid recovery.

If you exercise regularly after your baby is born, you are more likely to feel better about yourself and be less anxious. Regular exercise helps to ease the symptoms of post natal depression, Have higher energy levels, because you’re getting fitter and stronger, Lose weight and Bond with your baby/toddler.

What type of exercise can I do?

You can exercise your pelvic floor any time, but you may find it easiest while your baby is settled, or asleep. You can also use regular activities around the house first of all then start taking your baby outside for  a walk….start to push yourself a little more once you’ve had your postnatal check.

At Buggy Beat we do several short bursts of activity which can be just as good for you as one long session, so just do what you can. It is important to work at a level you are comfortable with.

Gradually increase your exercise sessions, once you feel up to it. The recommendation for adults is to be active for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

Walking with your pram or buggy is one of the easiest ways to exercise. If you need some motivation, you could walk with a friend, or join a Buggy Beat class.

Exercising and socialising with other parents can help you to feel better. It is particularly important if you are feeling lonely or you lack someone to talk to on a daily basis.

If you’re not used to exercising, don’t let that put you off. Exercise classes for new parents will cater for all fitness levels. As long as you get some exercise done, you’ll be doing well.

Whatever type of exercise you choose to build into your life, you’ll be helping your baby get used to being active, right from the start.

So get started today!
